A MOTORCYCLE-for-hire was ambushed in Barangay Liburon, Carcar City in southern Cebu late Thursday night, leaving a passenger dead and the driver wounded.
Melchor Pantilgan, the passenger, died from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
The driver, Elmer Navarro, 54, was injured and is recuperating in a hospital in Cebu City.
Supt. Teodulfo Manatad III, head of Carcar City Police Station, said they are looking at a personal grudge as motive of the attack.
He said Pantilgan was tagged in several incidents, but no case was been filed against him. The victim, he said, had also borrowed things from several people but failed to return them.
Initial investigation showed that the victims came from Sitio Awayan, Barangay Poblacion III and were heading to Sitio Magsipit, Barangay Liburon.
Upon reaching the area at 10 p.m., two men on motorcycle, who had been tailing them, overtook their vehicle.
One of the two fired at the victims, who fell to the ground wounded. The attackers then fled.
The victims were taken to Carcar Provincial Hospital. Pantilgan was declared dead on arrival.
Navarro was brought to a hospital in Cebu City.
Police recovered a .22 revolver with eight bullets from Pantilgan’s possession. Seven empty shells and a slug of an undetermined caliber of firearm were found at the crime scene.
The next day, another shooting occurred in Carcar City, wounding a motorcycle mechanic.
The victim was identified as Ronald Sabala, 30, who sustained a gunshot wound in his abdomen. He was shot by two men on motorcycle at 10:50 a.m. in Sitio Baha-Baha, Barangay Liburon.
