TWO pieces of P1,000 bills and 20 pieces of P500 counterfeit bills were confiscated during a police raid in Barangay Day-as, Cebu City last Wednesday night.

The Parian Police Station arrested Nicolas Herrera, 54.

Herrera sold counterfeit bills in the area.

Herrera said P1,000 bills are sold for P100 each, while P500 are sold at P75 each.

Parian Police Chief Ryan Devaras said they were supposed to raid the house of Herrera after receiving reports that the suspect conducted pot sessions along with other groups of men in the area.

While they were patrolling Barangay Day-as at 11 p.m. last Wednesday, they were able to spot Hererra along with another group of men in a shanty near Herrera’s house.
When the police went inside the shanty, the group of men immediately escaped, but Herrera was cornered by the police.

Aside from the fake bills, police found drug paraphernalia and a small sachet of suspected shabu.

Devaras said Herrera admitted that he was selling fake bills, but stopped short on
where he got them.

“We will still have to investigate where he got the fake bills. Because he did not tell us any other information,” said Devaras.

Devaras said Herrera usually operates through order basis, which means that the suspect will only get the counterfeit bills from the manufacturer if there are some customers who want to order.

“He is not a manufacturer. He also doesn’t keep stocks. When he gets an order, that’s when he gets his supply,” explained Devaras.

Aside from drug charges, Herrera will face a case of violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or illegal possession and intent to use fake money.
