CEBU CITY (Updated) – A call center agent leaped to his death from his office in Asiatown IT Park, Barangay Apas, Cebu City at dawn Friday.

Ernie Antigua Jr. of Barangay Looc, Mandaue City was filmed in a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera jumping off the roof deck of the 12-story i2 building at 12:12 a.m.

The 25-year-old employee of Convergys hit an awning before landing flat on the ground, to the horror of business process outsourcing workers who were having coffee or waiting for a ride on the elevator below.

Antigua was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. He died from severe injuries in his head and body, police said.

Before he took his life, Antigua posted a suicide note on his account in the social networking site Facebook. He said he was unable to cope after his girlfriend, a co-worker, left him for another guy.

“Gibuwagan ko niya (She broke up with me) without any certain reason and that hurts me the most, specially seeing her with other guys dancing, laughing and having fun,” he said.

“But do not blame her for my death. It’s just me who cannot move on ‘cause I love her so much and that my world evolves with her but she left me after all the sacrifices I’ve made,” he said.

Antigua also apologized to his family and friends for failing them “for just a girl.” He named his ex-girlfriend on the suicide note, but Sun.Star Cebu is withholding the girl’s name for her privacy.

The note was circulated online among netizens after Antigua’s suicide, but it has been deleted as of yesterday.

SPO4 Rey Cuyos, team leader from the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), told reporters Antigua also left a handwritten six-page letter, which stated his problems with his love life.

Antigua also told his sister about his bank account and advised her to use the money for their parents few hours before he committed suicide.

Appearing normal

“Nahibong siya ngano nag-ingato iyang igsuon pero wala sila nagtuo nga magpakamatay diay (The sister wondered why he was acting that way but she had no inkling he would be taking his life),” the homicide investigator said.

PO3 Nilo Aventurado told Sun.Star Cebu the victim appeared normal as he climbed the stairs leading to the roof deck, as shown on the CCTV footage.

While at the edge of the building, he said Antigua looked down for several seconds before making the plunge.

The victim’s remains were brought to Cebu Rolling Hills in A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City.

A female call center agent, who asked not to be named, said she was startled when she and her friends heard a loud thud.

Company assistance

“Abi namo og debris nga nahulog. Tawo diay. Kuyawa lagi namo (We thought it was falling debris. But it turned out to be a man),” she said.

Hanica Pacis, communications senior manager and spokesperson of Convergys, told Sun.Star Cebu they are saddened by the incident and they will cooperate with authorities.

She said they will help Antigua’s family with the burial arrangement. (Sun.Star Cebu)
