THE Cebu City Government will release some P121 million worth of allowance to the senior citizens and barangay officials of the city.

City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said P115 million will cover the P2,000 cash aid to the estimated 58,000 elderly while the remaining P6 million will cover the second quarter allowance of the 800 barangay officials.

For senior citizens, Cuevas said the P2,000 cash assistance will be released today for both the north and south districts. The distribution, which will be simultaneously held in the barangays, will start at 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Cuevas said this will already be the third tranche of financial assistance that will be given to the senior citizens.

For those who will not be able to claim their cash assistance today, Cuevas said the senior citizens may claim it on Wednesday at the City Treasurer’s Office.

The cash assistance for bed-ridden senior citizens will be delivered by the City to their respective homes.

To recall, the City released P1,000 in February to the elderly while in May, the City released P2,000. The City will already be able to release a total of P5,000 cash aid to the senior citizens.

Mayor Michael Rama earlier promised the senior citizens that the City will be giving out P12,000 in annual assistance to them.
He, however, has yet to decide if the amount will be fully given as cash since he planned that half of it will be given in the form of goods.

As for the barangay officials’ allowance, Cuevas said it will cover the months of April to June and the money will be released on Monday at the social hall of Cebu City Hall.

The barangay captains in 80 villages will receive P15,000 each (P5,000 per month) while the 560 barangay councilors will receive P9,000 (P3,000 per month).

The 80 barangay secretaries and 80 treasurers, on the other hand, will receive P6,000 each (P2,000 per month).

The cash assistance for the senior citizens and the allowance of the barangay officials are covered under the P5.89 billion budget of the City for 2014. (PDF)
