ANTI-DRUG operatives allegedly confiscated illegal drugs worth almost P200,000 from the house of a former Lapu-Lapu City Hall employee in Barangay Babag Dos.

Insp. Joey Bicoy of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (Raidsotg) said he and his fellow operatives recovered three medium packs of suspected shabu inside the residence of Giovani Toring, 36, in Sitio Beauty In The Sky.
But Toring was not around when they conducted the operation at 6 a.m. yesterday.

The operatives stormed Toring’s house bringing a search warrant issued by Lapu-Lapu City Regional Trial Court Branch 27 Executive Judge Torribio Quiwag.

Bicoy, in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu, said they applied for a search warrant, which Quiwag issued last Aug. 13, after conducting surveillance on Toring for almost a month.

“He was an identified drug pusher,” he said.

Only Toring’s wife, Erma Dungog, and their four small children were in the house when the operatives arrived. Bicoy said the suspect may have been tipped off.

“His wife was cooperative,” he said.

Bicoy said they found three medium heat-sealed packs of suspected shabu inside a drawer. The illegal drugs, which weighed about 15 grams, had an estimated worth of P177,000.

Bicoy said they will charge Toring with violation of Republic Act 9165, or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. “We will go after him once we get an arrest warrant,” he said.

Based on an identification card, Toring worked as a utility worker for City Hall during the administration of former mayor Ernest Weigel Jr. in the 1990s.

Mayor Paz Radaza confirmed with reporters yesterday that Toring was no longer connected with the City Hall. She said any job-order employees who use or sell illegal drugs will be fired immediately, while regular employees will be investigated first. RSB
