AN LBC outlet on Escario St., Cebu City lost about P10,000 to two suspected robbers yesterday afternoon.

The two robbers allegedly pointed a 45 caliber pistol at the two employees of the courier service and demanded for the outlet’s proceeds.

City Intelligence Branch Chief Romeo Santander said that the two robbers reportedly had two look-outs outside the establishment.

Once they had the cash, the suspects left on motorcycles parked outside the establishment.

The LBC outlet had no customer at that time.

Despite previous robberies of other LBC outlets, the Escario branch did not have security guards and the security camera was reportedly not functioning that day.

LBC Escario is the fifth branch of the courier service company to be robbed this year.

LBC Escario employees Lea Mariquit and Connie Jamela Concepcion said the robbery only took about two minutes.

“Dali ra kaayo. Nisibat dayon sila pagkuha sa kwarta (It happened very quickly. They left after getting the money),” Concepcion said.

She said the two suspects came in around 1:10 p.m. pretending to be customers. One of the suspects asked about the rates for sending packages.

Concepcion said that while she was attending to the queries, the other man pulled out a gun and pointed it at her.

Mariquit said the suspects demanded to know where the employees kept the outlet’s cash. She said the robbers went inside the cashier’s booth and looked for the money.

The suspects found the cash registrar and took the money in it.

Instead of calling the police, the employees called higher management first.

The incident was only reported to the police when lawyer Allan Piloton arrived.

Piloton said he went to the outlet because he needed to send documents via courier. He noted that the employees looked frightened so he asked them what happened.

It was Piloton who reported the robbery to the police.

Witnesses said the suspects boarded two motorcycles and drove toward Oprra.

Santander said one of the suspects had been identified after they showed a picture to the two tellers. He said they are still tracing of the suspects’ whereabouts.

Last March 7, the LBC Tabok Mandaue Branch lost P5,000 to robbers. Two days later, the LBC Taboan Branch lost P42,000.

On March 22, the LBC outlet in Bogo City lost P70,000 to robbers. Three weeks later, the LBC outlet in Moalboal was robbed and P40,000 was taken.

Robberies were carried out by two men who used motorcycles as their getaway vehicles.

Police noted LBC’s insufficient security measures. The four outlets that were robbed earlier had no security cameras and guards.
