POLICE arrested a couple during a buy-bust in the mountain barangay of Cambinocot, Cebu City at dawn yesterday.
Allegedly seized from Thelma Doblado and her husband Leonito, both 41, were several packs of suspected shabu worth P141,600.
Operatives of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (Raidsotg) of the Police Regional Office 7 conducted the operation around 3 a.m. in Sitio Zin after a two-week surveillance.
Insp. Joey Bicoy said Thelma sold drugs at her sari-sari store.
During the buy-bust, a police decoy bought P300 worth of shabu from Thelma.
After the transaction was consummated, operatives stormed the couple’s store and house.
They allegedly recovered a large pack of shabu from Thelma’s possession and three medium packs of shabu from Leonito.
Bicoy told Sun.Star Cebu that Thelma is a level 2 drug pusher, who can dispose of 200 grams of shabu per week.
The operation was prompted by complaints from concerned citizens regarding the couple’s alleged illegal activity.
‘Out in the open’
“Lantaran na kaayo ilang pagpamaligya (They were selling drugs out in the open),” Bicoy said.
Thelma told police she started selling illegal drugs when she and her daughter got sick: her daughter developed a cyst in her breast while she has goiter.
“Nangasakit kuno sila unya wala say laing pangita (And they had no other means of livelihood),” Bicoy said.
The Doblados are detained in Police Station 2 of the Cebu City Police Office.
Complaints for selling and possession of illegal drugs will be filed against them on Monday.
Last Thursday morning, Juneli Estreba, 21, a suspected drug pusher, was arrested by operatives of the Tuburan Municipal Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task Group during a buy-bust.
However, the subject of the operation, Mark Anthony Lee, 25, a resident of Barangay Poblacion 7, eluded arrest.
Estreba was taken into custody after he handed a pack of suspected shabu to PO1 Rolando Dungog, who acted as a decoy.
Dungog said he bought the shabu from Lee, but it was Estreba who handed the illegal drugs to him.
“Nakabantay man to siya pag-signal nako, niya nidagan padung luyo sa ilang balay nga kanipaan (I think he saw me signal that was why he ran toward the back of his house),” said Dungog.
Lee is in Tuburan’s watch list of drug personalities.
The search warrant was issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 59 Judge Hermes Montero of Toledo City.
Six small and one medium packs of white crystalline substance believed to be shabu and drug paraphernalia were allegedly recovered from Estraba’s possession.
Charges for violating Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, were filled against Estreba and Lee.
Estreba is detained at the Tuburan Police Station.
Meanwhile, Dungog said they are still looking for Lee.
