A MAYOR'S cousin was arrested with P30,000 worth of illegal drugs in a buy-bust in Tuburan, Cebu last Friday night.
Lyndon Diamante Sanchez, 48, fell in the hands of the Municipal Anti-illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (Maidsotg) of the Tuburan Police Station.
He is the cousin of Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante.
Maidsotg went to Sanchez's house at 10:30 p.m. last Friday for the buy-bust, with one operative acting as buyer.
Tuburan Police Chief William Homoc said they were armed with a search warrant issued by Toledo City Regional Trial Court Judge Hermes Montero.
Homoc said they inspected Sanchez's house and found a medium pack and 17 small packs of shabu and some drug paraphernalia.
Homoc revealed that it was Mayor Diamante who ordered the operation against Sanchez to stop the latter’s alleged illegal activities.
Sanchez was allegedly warned by the mayor that he will be arrested if he won't stop selling drugs.
Homoc alleged that Sanchez is a level three drug pusher and could dispose of at least 200 grams of shabu per week.
Homoc also said they received an order from Diamante to crack down all forms of illegal activities in Tuburan.
“He (Diamante) doesn't give special treatment to relatives who violate the law; they will be arrested,” added Homoc. (JTR)
