MEMBERS of the Cebu first district's Alayon Party confirmed yesterday that they are supporting Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Mar Roxas for president in 2016.

They said they are also supporting the reelection bid of Cebu Gov. Hilario "Junjun" Davide III.

In an interview yesterday, Cebu Rep. Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas Jr. (Cebu, 1st district) said that aside from supporting Roxas and Davide for the 2016 elections, Alayon mayors are also willing to take oath as members under the Liberal Party (LP).

But an official of the local LP said admitting Alayon members to LP must first be decided by party members.

Gullas confirmed yesterday that he and four mayors in the district signed a manifesto in support of Roxas and Davide.

Davide III laughed of insinuations of a Mar Roxas-Davide tandem in the 2016 elections, saying it's just a rumor that didn't come from his office of that of any LP member.

The idea first floated among Alayon members in the first district.

He said Roxas will most likely be the standard bearer of LP in 2016, but the position for his running mate is still open.

"Importante man gud magpadayon ning programa sa reforms ni Presidente Pnoy (It's important that President Aquino's programs are sustained)," said Davide.

Davide said former congressman Eduardo Gullas, Samsam and other first district mayors were in his office earlier to show him their manifesto of support for Roxas and Davide.

"Of course we welcome that," ge said.

Other Alayon members who signed the manifesto are City of Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong, Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura, Minglanilla Mayor Elanito "Lani" Pena and Sibonga Mayor Lionel Bacaltos.

They gave the manifesto of support to Roxas when he was in Cebu to meet with the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP)-Cebu chapter last week.

The manifesto of support confirmed reports that Alayon is making moves to coalesce with the local LP party, their rivals during the last elections.
Gullas also confirmed that majority of their members expressed willingness to join the local LP.

However, he said that if members of the local party and Alayon will have clashes, they will be contented with supporting Roxas and Davide. JKV/OCP
