PWDs in Cebu City get first tranche of cash aid-A A +A
Thursday, July 17, 2014
THE Cebu City Government yesterday released P18 million worth of financial assistance to the estimated 9,000 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the city, to coincide with PWD Month.
City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas said the amount covers the first tranche of cash aid to PWDs amounting to P2,000. The remaining P3,000 will be released in December.
PWDs in the north district were first to receive their cash, she said, while PWDs in the south district will get theirs today.
Yesterday’s distribution encountered problems, though, after some of the identification numbers of the PWDs in Barangays Carreta, Hipodromo and T. Padilla did not match with the payroll of the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).
“So I ordered it stopped until the records in the three barangays will be reconciled kay basin clerical error lang to or unsa ba (since it may have been a clerical error),” she said.
Cuevas said the distribution in the three barangays will resume as soon as the records are corrected.
The PWDs in the three barangays, she said, must go to the City Hall to get their cash.
The distribution of the financial assistance is spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS).
Asked why only 9,000 PWDs are receiving the cash aid when records of the Cebu City Federation of PWDs say there are 13,000 in the city, Cuevas said the payroll they made is based on the records of the DSWS.
She said it is the DSWS that processes the application of PWDs who want to avail themselves of the City’s cash aid program.
For PWDs who won’t be able to claim their money during the two-day distribution, Cuevas said they can claim it at the CTO office in the next five days.
After that period, Cuevas said, the financial assistance will be forfeited and will be reverted back to the City’s coffers.
