A MANDAUE City councilor wants to institutionalize the City’s Public Employment Services Office (Peso) so it can receive regular budget from the City every year.

Councilor Elstone Dabon said he will propose an ordinance to make Peso, a facility established by the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Mandaue, a separate City Hall department.

Peso was established through a memorandum of agreement between the City and Dole.

Since the City does not appropriate a separate budget for the facility, Peso Mandaue Manager Musoline Suliva said the office gets funding from the Mayor’s Office by submitting project proposals.

Aside from matching job applicants with companies in need of employees at their office, the Peso also holds job fairs and supports Dole-organized job fairs in the city.

The Peso held its first City-sponsored job fair this year last May 25 at the Pacific Mall, with 28 companies offering local jobs and six others offering employment abroad.

Suliva, in an interview, said Peso will be able to organize more livelihood projects and job fairs once it is institutionalized. (RSB)
