TWO Daanbantayan government employees, out of the 73 that included barangay captains, tested positive of drug, in surprise drug tests yesterday.

“Naa koy trusted nga tao nga gisumbong sa ako, so akong gipa-undergo og drug test to confirm (the veracity of the report),” said Mayor Augusto Corro, who also disputed rumors he is a drug lord.

Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CPADAC) Executive Director Joey Herrera said the results of the two who tested positive will still be subjected to further tests.

After the flag ceremony yesterday, the mayor led 11 out of 20 barangay captains, 51 municipal employees and 11 department heads to a surprise drug test.

Four of the 11 barangay captains who underwent the drug tests were among those who signed a recall petition against the mayor.

Corro said this is to assure everyone that not only those who supported him underwent the drug test.

Drug of choice

Herrera said initial results revealed that one tested positive of marijuana use and another tested positive of shabu. Herrera did not specify the gender, job status and position of the two.

Of the 54 municipal employees, three were absent, though they are still verifying if their absence is intentional, said Herrera.

Corro, who said he did not get the identity of the two who tested positive of drugs, warned that job-order employees who are found to be using illegal drugs will be dismissed, while regular ones or casual employees will undergo investigation.

“Maayo ning ma-drug test akong mga empleyado kay ako na may gisigihan og saway, drug lord kuno ako (This is good that employees will undergo drug tests since I’ve been accused of being a drug lord),” Corro sai,d saying the test will erase doubts about him and his stand against illegal drugs.

Last March 31, nine Capitol employees tested positive of drugs during a surprise drug test.

Last May 5, a surprise drug test was also conducted on 37 Penro employees and one tested positive.

Last May 20, about 80 Moalboal employees underwent surprise drug tests and four tested positive.

Corro said two notorious drug personalities in his town were already neutralized in his term, last year and last April.
