THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 will implement an P83.7-million drainage project on A.S. Fortuna St., Mandaue City starting next week.

Public utility vehicles will be rerouted as soon as the contractor starts digging the road to install culverts, said Edwin Ermac, head of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team).

Aside from installing culverts, the DPWH 7 will create a catchment area to address flooding on A.S. Fortuna.

The project, which will start in time for the rainy season, will be undertaken by P.B Obial Construction in three phases within 300 days.

The first phase will begin from corner M.C. Briones St. to corner A. Del Rosario St.
The box culverts, which will be placed along the middle of the road, will lead to the Tipolo Creek, where the outfall of rainwater runoff is located.

A.S. Fortuna St. is one of the most heavily flooded roads in Mandaue during rainy season.

City Planning Officer Florentino Nimor said the catchment area will be built in the lowest-lying part of the road, where establishments L.H. Prime and Rolling Hills Funeral Parlor are located.

That part of the road, he said, will also be elevated by about a meter.

The road from corner M.C. Briones and corner A. del Rosario will be closed to traffic once construction works begin on Monday.

All vehicles travelling along B.B. Cabahug from A.C. Cortes will have to turn left to F.B. Cabahug and turn right to F. Rosal St.

Vehicles taking A.S. Fortuna in Banilad going to Mandaue City proper will have to turn left to M.C. Briones, turn right to L. Jayme St., turn right again to B.B. Cabahug and turn left to F.B. Cabahug. RSB
