7 nabbed in weekend checkpoints

SEVEN were arrested after they were caught bringing alleged illegal drugs and firearms in a series of checkpoints by police stations in Cebu City last Saturday night and Sunday dawn.

At 10:50 p.m. Saturday, the Mabolo Police headed by Sr. Insp. Hartzel Peter Bellido arrested two men on board a black motorcycle in a checkpoint in Ayala Access Road Cebu City.

William Banono, 20, and Cesario Gallardo, 52, were arrested after trying to avoid the checkpoint.


When the operatives flagged them down, Banono, who was driving the motorcycle, reportedly tried to change course, but was cornered by the police.

Seized from Banono were four small sachets of alleged illegal drugs while a .45 pistol was confiscated from Gallardo.


In a phone interview, Bellido said they will check the background of the suspect and if they have pending cases.

“Possible, basin manulis or mamaligya ug drugs, pero amo pa na imbestigaron (It’s possible, maybe they’ll rob or sell drugs, but we still need to investigate,” added Bellido.

At around 11 p.m. the Guadalupe Police also arrested Francis Feldan Pabalate, 27, in Duterte St., Barangay Guadalupe.

Pabalate reportedly tried to escape from the checkpoint, but he was caught by the police.

Seized from his possession was a small sachet of alleged illegal drugs.

Tisa arrest

At 12:07 a.m. yesterday, three were arrested when the Punta Princesa police were roving in Sitio Lutaw-lutaw, Barangay Tisa.

Arrested during the operation were Arnulfo Larita, 55; Ronnie Aligarbes, 24; and Brian del Valle Carnero, 41.

Six small sachets of illegal drugs were confiscated from their possession.

Police believed that the three are planning to have a pot session, but was arrested instead.

At 5 a.m. yesterday, the San Nicolas Police arrested Carlos Martinez, 24, in a checkpoint in Tupas St., Barangay Pasil.

He was driving a black Suzuki motorcycle. When he stopped during the checkpoint, a small sachet of illegal drugs was found in his pocket.

The series of checkpoints are under the directive of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Noli Romana in their campaign against crimes.
