A STUDENT reportedly plunged to his death on his second attempt to jump off a rooftop of a three-storey building on Urgello St., Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City.

Kim Varga, 21, a Biology student, committed suicide yesterday morning.

He was saved on his first attempt when he fell onto cable wires on the building’s second floor.

Varga was unfazed. He went back up the rooftop and jumped again. This time, he fell down the cemented ground and died.

The building is reportedly owned by Varga’s friend, Daryl Medello.

SPO1 Ruth Violango, homicide investigator, said there was no suicide note left in Varga’s possession.

But based on their investigation, Varga reportedly had problems in school.

Varga, a resident of Tres de Abril, Cebu City, did not finish his last semester in a medical school.

Violango said that at 10 p.m. on Monday, Varga went to Medello’s apartment building and asked if he could sleep over.

Medello agreed and allowed Varga to stay in a vacant room while the former went back to his room and slept.

At 6:40 a.m. yesterday, Varga reportedly went to the building’s rooftop then jumped off.

Jalandoni Yuson, a resident across the building, saw Varga jump.

He said that he heard Varga shout something when he jumped, but Varga landed onto bundled cable wires from a post on the building’s second floor.

Yuson said that he immediately went inside the building because he thought Varga was a burglar trying to escape.

But while he was running toward the building, Varga managed to go down from the cable wire and went back to the rooftop then jumped again.

No one saw Varga’s second jump.

Varga sustained severe injuries in the head and chest. He was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center but died at 7:40 a.m.

Violango said that Varga’s parents were also informed of the incident. She said they will coordinate with Varga’s parents for further investigation.
