A SIX-year-old boy fractured the bones in his right cheek when he fell from the second level of a mall in Cebu City last Tuesday night.
Police Inspector Vincent Zozobrado of Mabolo Police Station said Rhian Samuel Horca, 6, slammed toward the glass railing on the upper ground level and fell into the lower ground level when the glass broke. The boy landed on the floor of the SM City mall's food court.
The boy was with his mother, Wenefreda. They were at the mall waiting for the boy’s father, Raul, so they could dine together.
Management assured the Horca family that they will shoulder the boy’s medical expenses.
In a text message to Sun.Star Cebu, SM City said Rhian was conscious when brought to the hospital by paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) and the mall’s nurse.
Raul told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview that the family does not blame SM. “Wa may nag-gusto ani. Accident man ni (No one intended this to happen. It was an accident)," he said.
He said his son was not chasing somebody when the accident occurred. "Energetic baya kaayo ning anaka (My son is a very energetic child),” he added. He said his wife was buying something in one of the stores at that time.
Raul, an engineer, urged the public to stop posting wrong information on online social media sites, because these will only make his family more anxious.
He said Rhian will undergo surgery tomorrow. (JTR/Daryl Niño T. Jabil, CNU Comm Intern)
