A POLICEMAN from the Dumanjug Police Station might be dismissed from service following a series of violations including socializing with an inmate he led out of prison.

PO2 Socrates Avila is now facing criminal and administrative complaints after allegedly reporting to work drunk, letting an inmate out of the jail cell, hitting a sign while on board a patrol car and poking a gun at a police official.

Senior Insp. Cesar Misola, the former town police chief, filed complaints of direct assault and reckless imprudence resulting to damage to property against Avila before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.

Misola also lodged administrative complaints for grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of police officers, less neglect of duty and violation of anti-graft and corrupt practices act against Avila before the Regional Internal Affairs Service 7.

Misola, who has been transferred to Danao City Police Station, said Avila is now assigned at the Provincial Holding Admin Unit of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

After the incident, Avila ran away and didn’t report for several days until he turned up in the police station.

“He apologized to me for what he did. But I can’t do anything about it anymore because the case has been filed,” Misola told Sun.Star Cebu in Tagalog.

The incident happened last March 20. (DSM)
