Bikers hit city streets to mark Earth Day-A A +A
Sunday, April 27, 2014
ABOUT 180 bicycle enthusiasts Saturday participated in a ride to celebrate Earth Day.
Although Earth Day was on April 22, Tindak Sugbo organizers scheduled the early morning ride on a Saturday to allow more bikers to participate.
Other Tindak Sugbo rides for April, May and June are held on Sundays.
Psychology Volunteers on Bike, one of the founders of Tindak Sugbo, said the rides allow participants to experience how motorists behave toward cyclists and teach road users to share space.
Tindak Sugbo is a private sector-led movement to promote bicycles as an earth-friendly mode of transport and convince government policy-makers to designate bike lanes.
Also yesterday, West Gorordo Hotel organized the 2014 Earth Day Festival, which includes lectures and workshops organic farming, earth-friendly housecleaning, food security, renewable energy and art.
To cap the Earth Day celebration, West Gorordo Hotel handed out Community Transformative Leardership Awards to Jeanne Torrefranca, a yoga instructor and healthy lifestyle advocate; Jay Garganera, a bike enthusiast; and Psychology Volunteers on Bikes, a group of environmental protection advocates.
West Gorordo Hotel also launched its bike parking facility. (LAP)
