A PREGNANT woman was robbed by three men in Barangay Ermita, Cebu City last Monday afternoon. What they didn’t know was their victim was a policewoman.

When they fled, PO1 Vel Anne Magpantay chased after them. With the help of tanods in the area, she arrested two of the suspects.

Magpantay, 25, is assigned in the beat patrol of the Carbon Police Station.

She left the station around 4 p.m.

“Nananghid to siya na molakaw sa office kadiyot kay magprocess sa iyang loan, mao tong gailis and ga-civilian siya (She had asked for permission to process her loan so she changed into civilian clothes),” said Station Chief Noel Lomente.

On her way back to the station, three men approached her on El Filibusterismo St. One of them pointed an ice pick at her and declared a holdup.

Magpantay, who was still on duty, gave her wallet containing P5,000.

Nobody could mistake her for a policewoman because she was not in uniform and she looks young, Lomente said.

The suspects were identified as Randolph Quijano, 25, and 16-year-old Boy (real name withheld for being a minor).

Their companion, a certain “Michael,” eluded arrest. He allegedly has Magpantay’s wallet.

“Dali ra nakapangayo og tabang si Magpantay (was able to get help quickly) since she knows where our force multipliers are situated and the deployment of police,” Lomente said.

Police record

He said Quijano reportedly has three pending cases for theft had been in prison. The minor is reportedly Quijano’s protégé.

“Ang minor, gitrain man ni Quijano para mahimong holdupper (Quijano is training the minor to become a holdupper),” he said.

Police are still looking for the third suspect.

Magpantay, who hails from Lapu-lapu City, did not report to the office yesterday after her doctor reportedly advised her to get some rest.

Sun.Star Cebu tried to reach Magpantay through her mobile phone, but the calls were not answered.
