TWO women, a former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) and a Korean national, were believed to have committed suicide in separate incidents in Borbon town and in Lapu-Lapu City last Wednesday.

Nelia Mangubat, 52, was found hanging inside the comfort room of her employer in Barangay Bongyoyan, Borbon at 4:30 p.m.

Mangubat, who previously worked as a domestic helper abroad, reportedly committed suicide because of her P3,000 debt from a money lender, police said.

PO1 Jose Mari Garcia of the Borbon Police Station said Mangubat was found by her employer’s seven-year-old son.

Mangubat’s male employer immediately removed the rope from her neck and rushed her to the Juan Dosado Hospital. She, however, died before reaching the hospital.

The male employer told the police that Mangubat was suffering from a nervous breakdown
after coming home from abroad.

Police advised Mangubat’s family to submit the body to an autopsy examination, but the family was reportedly convinced that it was a case of suicide.

In Lapu-Lapu, a Korean businesswoman was found dead inside her house at White Sands Subdivision in Barangay Maribago.

PO3 Winston Ybañez of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office’s Homicide Section identified the woman as Jin Hyejung, 25.

Initial investigation showed Hyejung came home at 2 a.m. after visiting a friend. She owned a restaurant.

One of her house helpers, Pinky Neri, reportedly noticed that Hyejung looked depressed while sitting at the living room. Hyejung then retired to her room.

At 8 a.m., Neri tried waking Hyejung up by knocking on the door, which she regularly do, but her employer reportedly did not respond. This prompted Neri to call for help.

After opening Hyejung’s room, Neri and the other house helpers saw the Korean national lying on the floor with a tie wrapped around her neck. A curtain rod, believed to be where the victim hanged herself, was broken.

Ybañez, when interviewed by Sun.Star Cebu, said Hyejung was supposed to fetch her Korean live-in partner at the airport last Wednesday.

Homicide investigators didn’t see any external injuries on Hyejung’s body and disarray inside the room that would indicate a foul play.

An autopsy examination is set to be conducted on Hyejung’s body.
