Congress urged to abolish RTWPB-A A +A

A PARTIDO ng Manggagawa (PM) official is urging Congress to create the National Living Wage Commission (NLWC) that will take care of wages of all workers in the country and
abolish the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB).
PM spokesman Dennis Derige said the proposed NLWC will balance the capacity of the employers to pay wages and capacity of the workers to buy their daily needs.
“There must be a strike and balance in the labor front. Unfortunately in RTWPB, the criteria is one-sided in favor of the employers. NLWC must be the alternative,” he said.
“They have seven criteria but six out of seven are pro-employer and only one, which is the capacity to buy, is pro-labor. The criteria one to six, among them the capacity to pay, consumer price index and inflation rate are pro-management,” he said.
He said it seems labor unions are helpless in seeking petitions for wage increase.
“You will just get dismayed if RTWPB will just give you P13 Cola (cost of living allowance),” he said.
Derige said PM convinced other labor groups to refrain from filing petitions for wage increase before the RTWPB because by doing so, they just legitimize the presence of RTWPB which they want abolished.
