THE Cebu Provincial Government will provide a counterpart fund of P417,000 to the private sector-led disaster risk management initiative, Noah’s Ark Project.

This, after the Provincial Board (PB) adopted yesterday a resolution authorizing Gov. Hilario Davide III to sign a memorandum of agreement with Smart Communications, Petron, Prudence Foundation and Pru Life.

Smart Communications, through its Corporate Network for Disaster Response (CDNR), partnered with the Noah’s Ark project to help communities prepare for disasters.
Noah’s Ark provides disaster risk management training, workshops and drills for barangays that are vulnerable to calamities.

In Cebu, the project is estimated to cost P2.7 million and will include trainings for the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and disaster management councils of high-risk local government units.

Through CNDR, Smart Communications will tap mobile applications to establish early warning systems during calamities.

Prudence Foundation, Pru Life and Petron also committed to provide financial support and recommend other development projects that may be undertaken to increase resilience of communities to disasters.

Under the Noah’s Ark project, the Capitol will identify and designate evacuation sites in Cebu Province.
