FIRE struck a two-story building on Lapu-Lapu St. in Barangay San Roque, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.

The building houses the Wellmade Machine Shop Diesel Calibration, which is owned by Philip Tan, president of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Fire investigator Lowel Opolentisima said the fire broke out at 3:17 p.m. and was placed under control 15 minutes after.

Damage was estimated at P50,000.

The fire originated on the second floor, which is used as sleeping quarters for Tan’s employees.

Ryan Dagoplo, supervising engineer of the shop, said they first noticed thick smoke coming out of the upstairs window.

They immediately called the fire department.

Opolentisima said the fire only damaged the second floor.

Cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.
