THE Cebu City Council wants the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) to submit a utilization and inventory report of all the items the City had issued to the organization.

This, as CCPO requested from the City additional handheld radios.

Councilor Dave Tumulak sponsored a resolution on the matter, charging against the Pagcor funds the amount needed for the purchase, which is estimated at P500,000.

But before approving the resolution, Councilor Gerardo Carillo raised the motion to let the CCPO submit first an inventory report of all the items it received from the City.

“We need to have an accounting of all the items including the handheld radios as a form of inventory to know how many items were already extended to them and its utilization,” Carillo said.

He said he is not against the giving of items to CCPO since it will help the City.

In his proposed resolution, Tumulak said the handheld radios are essential for the police force to be more effective in responding to alarms. There’s also a need for the police to be equipped with modern and state of the art communication gadgets.

Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella also said there is a need to improve the equipment of the police.

As the head of City’s Police Coordinating and Advisory Council (Pcac), Labella said patrols lack handheld radios.

Tumulak said the additional radios are important especially with local and foreign tourists visiting the city.

Right now, the General Services Office (GSO) said in their report that the City has issued 109 handheld radios to CCPO, of which three are defective. (RVC)
