TEN houses were destroyed in a fire outside of the old Tabunok Public Market in Talisay City around 1 a.m. yesterday.

Talisay City Fire Marshal Randy Mendaros said they have yet to determine the cause of the blaze, but nearby residents claimed that a candle may have started it.

Mendaros said the cause of the fire cannot be faulty electrical wiring as most of the houses don't have electricity connection.

FO2 Eduardo Abadiano of the Talisay City Fire Department some of the houses were also used as stalls.

The fire spread quickly as the houses were made of light materials.

Fire investigators, led by FO3 Omar Andrew Segovia, pegged the damage caused by the blaze at about P50,000.

In a GMA 7 Balitang Bisdak report, some of the fire victims blamed one of their neighbors who allegedly left a lighted candle.

Talisay City public information officer Vince Monterde said the City Social Welfare Office (CSWO) is assessing the needs of the fire victims so that City Hall would know how much financial aid will be given to them.

He said the affected families are temporarily staying at the Tabunok Sports Complex.
