THREE men accused of strafing a house in Barangay Tagjaguimit, City of Naga that killed a five-year-old girl were arrested by police in consecutive hot pursuits.

Senior Insp. Wilson Abot of Cebu Provincial Police Office’s Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch said the two gunmen were relatives of Prima Cantorne, 59.

They were Felix Alimento, 22, and German Alimento, 26. Their cohort was identified as Ruel Larrosa, 25.

Felix, a charcoal-maker, was arrested Tuesday morning by police after Cantorne identified him as one of the gunmen.

A few hours later, German, a porter, was caught inside his house in Sitio Punod. On Wednesday dawn, Larrosa, a laborer, was picked up by police in Pier 2, Cebu City.

Main target

“They were really after the old woman,” Abot told reporters.

He was referring to Jinjin Paquera, five, who was shot and killed while sleeping inside the house with Cantorne when the strafing took place late Sunday night.

The suspects, Abot said, were identified by Cantorne as the persons who showed up in her house in Sitio Punod.

Felix, in particular, reportedly was the one who pushed the door before firing shots at the house.

Personal grudge was eyed by police as motive of the attack after German was summoned to the barangay hall to settle an altercation with Cantorne’s son.

Prior incident

Before the incident, Cantorne’s husband and other child were killed in separate shooting incidents several years ago.

Abot, during the press briefing, said Cantorne was hesitant to coordinate with the police for fear of being attacked again.

“We assured him that we will look after his safety. That was when he told everything that happened,” he said.

When interviewed by police, Abot said the suspects admitted to the crime and revealed they hid the firearms in a bamboo.

But police didn’t find these during an inspection in an area in Sitio Punod.

The suspects, when interviewed by the media, denied taking part in the crime. The Alimentos said they were at home while Larrosa was at work.

“I didn’t know my grandmother is suspecting that I’m part of this,” Felix said. A murder complaint will be filed against them.
