ONE died and a building was damaged in two fire incidents in Cebu City and Sta. Fe, Cebu yesterday.

In Cebu City, the fire alarm was received by the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) 7 at 5:55 a.m. yesterday in Camp Visayas, Barangay Lahug.

The fire was put under control at 6:12 a.m.

According to SFO1 Lowel Opolenticima, the fire started in the stockroom of a one-story building occupied by the Boy Scout of the Philippines.

The building was damaged.

BFP 7 estimated the damage to property at P100,000.

Further investigation showed that bystanders near the building noticed a smoke coming from the building.

A few minutes later, they heard an explosion and saw fire, prompting them to call for BFP 7.

All Cebu City Fire trucks responded to the alarm.

Opolenticima said they immediately arrived at the scene so the fire was quickly put off.

No one was hurt.

In the second incident, a 52-year-old woman died after a fire destroyed her house.

The incident happened at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

The fire started in the house owned by Gloria Ilustrisimo, 52, in Sitio Gumamela, Barangay Ocoy, Sta. Fe.

Ilustrisimo was reportedly sleeping with a mosquito coil placed on top of her bed near her feet.

The mosquito killer reportedly fell on her bed and started the fire.

The Sta. Fe fire fighters controlled the fire in 20 minutes but the victim’s house was burned.

Ilustrisimo suffered second degree burns on her face and third degree burns on her chest. She was asleep when the incident happened. She died at 3:45 a.m. last Friday.

Damage to property was pegged at P60,000.

Fire investigators still have to investigate further if Ilustrisimo was alone in her house.
