IT WAS the fourth vessel to run aground in Cebu this month.

In a phone interview, Commander Rodolfo Villajuan of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Cebu Station confirmed that the MV Weesam 7 ran aground at 6:10 p.m. near the area where the MV St. Thomas Aquinas sank last year.

Villajuan said the vessel was supposed to dock at the Cebu City Pier at 7 p.m.

A rescue unit from PCG Cebu Station was immediately dispatched to rescue the passengers and crew members.

Villajuan suspects that because of low visibility, the vessel was maneuvered toward a shallow area.

The Lauis Ledge, located near Barangay Tanke in Talisay City, is the site where the mv St. Thomas Aquinas vessel of 2Go Shipping sank after colliding with a cargo vessel last year. The accident resulted in the death of 116 passengers.
