Recruits ‘not fed on time’ during Sinulog

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) admitted that meals intended for new police recruits deployed during the Sinulog grand parade were delayed.

This, after some recruits complained that they were not able to eat while they were on streets.

“We didn’t get to eat until late in the afternoon. We didn’t bring any money because we thought we didn’t need it. They also did not give any allowance,” said one recruit who asked not to be named.

Chief Insp. Enrique Belciña, the CCPO’s police community relations officer, said the food was delayed because of the thick crowd and the wide scope of area covered by the recruits.

He said they didn’t provide the recruits any allowance because they were getting free meals.

Lesson learned

Last Sunday, Belciña said a caterer provided the breakfast, lunch and dinner for the 503 recruits from the Regional Training School in Balamban and Consolacion.

The meals were delivered to the CCPO on Gorordo Ave. early that morning, he said. CCPO personnel were assigned to distribute the meals.

“There were just too many people and the recruits were spread far and wide,” he said in Cebuano.

He said the police personnel who were deployed that day did not get any meals since they received a cash allowance of P2,000.

Belciña said they learned a lesson from last Sunday’s experience, adding that they will make sure this will not happen again in next year’s Sinulog.
