THE most wanted person in the city of Naga, Cebu was killed in a shootout with the police yesterday dawn while his companion remains in critical condition.

A police team conducted a manhunt operation against Jennel Librea, 29, based on a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Estela Alma Singco of the Regional Trial Court Branch 12.

Librea was the suspect in the killing of businessman Renante Bacus, 39, in Barangay Tuyan in November 2013. Bacus was shot several times inside his hardware store.

Chief Insp. Timmar Alam, chief of the Minglanilla Police Station, said the police set up a checkpoint in Barangay Tuyan around 5:30 p.m. yesterday after learning that Librea was in the area.

The police saw Librea and Vincent Mabanag, 28, driving separate motorcycles.

The law enforcers flagged the two but instead of stopping, Mabanag took out a .38 pistol and started shooting at the policemen.

The police fired and hit Mabanag. Librea drove off.

The police team, led by SPO2 Ian Quitayen of the City of Naga Police Station and PO2 Romeo Bolaño of the Provincial Public Safety Company, chased Librea.

Librea was cornered in Sitio Abuno, Barangay Tunghaan in Minglanilla, but he fired at the police. He was hit during the shootout and declared dead on arrival at the Minglanilla District Hospital.

Mabanag, on the other hand, was brought to a hospital in Cebu City.

Recovered from Librea was a .45 pistol with two magazines. The police also recovered a .38 revolver allegedly used by Mabanag.
