ABOUT 600 passengers were affected when the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) prevented 13 vessels from leaving Cebu ports amid rough seas.

In Talisay City yesterday morning, rains caused a landslide in the uplands, blocking a road in Barangay Camp 4.

PCG Cebu Commander Rodolfo Villajuan said the fluvial parade at dawn today will be canceled if a storm signal is raised in Cebu.

But Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Jhomer Eclarino said Metro Cebu will experience moderate rainshowers or thunderstorms this weekend but there is no forecast of a typhoon.

The sea would be rough during the fluvial parade, however, and there might be strong winds.

Eclarino said seas around Central Visayas will be rough to very rough with wave height reaching 3.4 to 4.5 meters.

But he assured that tropical depression Agaton was seen 260 kilometers southeast of Guian, Eastern Samar yesterday and is moving toward the Mindanao area.

Villajuan said the suspension of boat trips is to ensure everyone’s safety.

Department of Public Works and Highways Second Engineering District Chief Daisy Toledo said QM Builders, contractor of an ongoing road widening project in the area, deployed heavy equipment to clear the road of debris.

The landslide affected the Talisay-Toledo Wharf Access Road.

Talisay City Councilor Danny Caballero said the landslide also damaged steel fences along the narrow road.

Toledo urged motorists and commuters to be careful while traveling on roads in the uplands as landslides could occur, especially after heavy rains.
