Cebu City Hall vows to streamline process-A A +A

CEBU City Government intends to speed up the processing of renewing business permits so it can be completed in 10 minutes.
Diwa Cuevas, officer-in-charge of the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO), said City Hall will no longer issue temporary business permits to shorten the application process.
Cebu City CTO will also set up a one-stop shop for business permit renewals at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall from Jan. 6 to 24.
Compared to the usual processing that will last for a month, Cuevas said, the new process would be easier and more convenient.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the move is part of the City Government’s program to improve the business climate and attract more investments to the city.
The plan includes dropping requirements like the preceding year's Income Tax Return (ITR), financial statement marked received by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), sales journal, and value-added tax (VAT) or percentage tax returns.
Diwa said business owners only need to submit an application form and a print out ledger for 2013.
The business owner may be required to submit other requirements during the validation period, which will be during the second quarter payment of taxes or before April 20 this year.
Cuevas said the CTO will also check the declared taxes for 2013 and 2012 for any suspicious differences in figures.
If there is a significant drop in the establishment’s taxes, CTO will have to examine its books.
The Cebu CTO expects 30,000 business permit renewals and applications this year.
