MCWD sends aid to towns hit by earthquake, Yolanda-A A +A

THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) gave generator sets to four water districts in Cebu, Bohol and Leyte that were affected by the earthquake and typhoon last year.
MCWD general manager Armando Paredes turned over checks worth over P30,000 each to officials of Clarin Water District, Talibon Water District and Daanbantayan Water district for the payment of the generator sets for them.
Earlier, MCWD also purchased a generator set and delivered it to Metro Carigara Water District in Leyte.
The water districts in Carigara and Daanbantayan were badly hit by super typhoon Yolanda last Nov. 8 while Clarin and Talibon water districts, both in Bohol, were severely affected by the magnitude 7.2 on Oct. 15.
Benedicta Batingal, general manager of Talibon Water District, thanked MCWD for the help it extended to them.
She said it is the first time they received a generator set as donation. They will use it in their office, which does not have power since the earthquake hit Bohol.
She said they could not accept payment from their clients at their office because they had no power supply.
They have another generator set, which is being used by their pumping stations to continue their water services to consumers.
On the other hand, Gregorio Montana, general manager of the Daanbantayan Water District, said they will use the generator set in their different pump stations.
“Amo lang i-rotate sa lain-lain nga pump stations para mabahin sad ang makatubig (We will set it up in the different pump stations so everybody will have access to water),” he said.
Montana said the Cebu Provincial Government and two private firms lent them three generator sets but these were installed in specific pump stations and they cannot move these to other stations because they do not own the equipment. (PR)
