A TEAM from the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) arrived in Cebu yesterday and is expected to fly to Tacloban City today to help in the post-disaster response in the area.

The eight-member Interpol team met with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama yesterday and informed him they will assist in identifying bodies of typhoon Yolanda victims in Tacloban, among others.

The team, which is headed by Interpol director for operational police support Michael O'Connell, is composed of forensic experts from Canada, South Africa and United Kingdom among others.

Members of the International Commission for Missing Persons are also going with the Interpol team to Tacloban.

In an interview yesterday, O'Connell said their team will assess, support and advise Philippine Government personnel involved in disaster victim identification.

O'Connell said the Interpol has not been formally asked to help in the identification of the thousands of casualties but they are willing to assist.

He said their group will fly to Tacloban today at 5 a.m. on a C-130 plane of the Philippine Air Force.

They will stay in Tacloban until Sunday.
