THE Osmeña family flew to the United States last Thursday.

Former congressman Tomas Osmeña, accompanied by wife and Councilor Margarita Osmeña and son Miguel will visit the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas for Tomas’s regular checkup.

Tomas flies to the United States every six months since he was diagnosed with cancer of the bladder in 2008. He has since been declared cancer-free, but was advised by the doctor to have a regular check-up every nine months.

But the Osmeñas go to the center every six months.

Councilor Osmeña will be out of the office for 10 days, but told reporters the day
before she left that she is open to a meeting with the mayor.

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama told reporters last month that he wants to meet with the councilors to share his policy direction. Rama has been meeting the media, police, barangays, City Hall departments regarding this.

He also wants to meet with the Cebu Archdiocese and the Parents Teachers Community Association.

Rama said that his programs need the support of the members of the Cebu City Council, especially those from the opposition or the members of the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK).

“Yes, we will attend,” said Councilor Osmeña, flanked by other BOPK councilors in a press conference last Wednesday.

They plan to make the press conference a regular one after each Wednesday session.

Some councilors are not always in their respective offices daily. Since their job covers the entire Cebu City, composed of 80 barangays, some of them do not go to the office anymore except on Wednesdays where there is a session.

The BOPK councilors are also looking forward to the Executive-Legislative Agenda (ELA) that Rama introduced in his first term but as of this week, there was no schedule sent to the councilors.

The goal of the ELA is for the executive and legislative departments to map out the programs of the administration through the executive so that the legislative can craft the necessary legislative measures.

Councilor Osmeña raised though that there was no output from the ELA of 2010.
