A TEENAGE boy allegedly took his life inside their house in Barangay Cogon, Compostela, Cebu on Friday.

Police said Ramil Adaya, 14, was found by his neighbor past 7 p.m. hanging inside their kitchen. A rope was tied around his neck.

This is the second incident recorded this year in Cebu Province where a teenager committed suicide after they were reprimanded by their parents.

An eleven-year-old girl in Barangay Don Andres Soriano, Toledo City did the same last May.

PO2 Arnie Goc-ong of Compostela Police Station said the boy could have been upset after he was reportedly scolded by his parents for always hanging around with his friends and coming home late at night.

Before the incident, Adaya, a third-year high school student, sent a text message to one of his close friends to come over to his house.

“Magbuhat kog kalingawan diri kay mag tiguk nako (You will be entertained because I’ll be hanging myself),” his message said.

The boy’s parents who make and sell ice cream for a living were not at home at that time.

One of their workers, Roy Donaire, visited the house past 7 p.m. to prepare the ingredients in making the ice cream.

Donaire told police that because the house was closed, he asked an eight-year-old boy Charles Buensuceso to open the window so they could enter inside.

When Buensuceso turned on the lights, they saw Adaya hanging in the kitchen.

The boy was rushed to Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City, but Dr. Simon Clyde Caputol declared him dead due to strangulation by.

Goc-ong said he advised the parents to submit the boy’s body for autopsy, but they refused because they believed that he committed

“The boy gets upset when scolded,” he said.

Goc-ong said Adaya left their house on several occasions when he was scolded by his parents.

He said the boy recently ran away but came back.

Adaya is the youngest of five siblings.

In an earlier interview, Dr. Rene Obra, head of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for Behavioral Sciences, said teens are at risk of committing suicide because they encounter various emotional struggles.

Depression is the most common reason for a person to commit suicide, he said.
