MEMBERS of the Liberal Party (LP) in Talisay City said they are willing to comply with the order of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to remove illegally placed campaign posters.

The Comelec Cebu Provincial Office recently sent notices to candidates running in different local government units in Cebu who reportedly violated an election provision after posting campaign materials in non-designated areas.

In Talisay City, the Comelec warned LP mayoral candidate Johnny delos Reyes and its candidates for the City Council--Danilo Caballero, Valeriano Ylanan, Serenia Cabañero, Bensing Raguindin and Aldin Diaz--regarding the posting of campaign materials in areas not sanctioned by the election office.

LP’s vice mayoral candidate Romeo Villarante said they too are willing to remove campaign posters if they receive the notice from Comelec.

However, he admitted that they can’t stop their supporters from posting in areas not allowed by Comelec.

He said they’ve already reprimanded some supporters, but they ended up getting irked.

Caballero and Valeriano Ylanan, both incumbent councilors, said they’ve been removing campaign materials, including oversized tarpaulins, since March 29, or the formal start of the campaign period, after they received notices from the local election office.

Niño Rabaya and Doroteo, who are running for the City Council under the Alayon Party, also received notices from the provincial election officer.
