BASKETBALL fans will be on the edge of their seats as the Fiba Basketball World Cup 2014 brings exciting slam dunks and defenses. Watch the on-court excitement via live telecast at the Buko Bar poolside lounge of Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa. While enjoying the al fresco ambiance, sample the seven new burger flavors themed with some of the countries participating in the Fiba.
For the classic American burger, the beef patty is topped with strips of crispy bacon and slices of cheese. The Greek burger has a beef patty, romaine lettuce, melitzanosalata (pureed eggplant) and feta cheese, while the South Korean beef burger has bulgogi sauce, sliced garlic, green chili and kimchi.
For chicken patties, try the Mexican burger topped with jalapeño peppers, guacamole and tomato salsa, or the Spanish burger with grilled peppers and chorizo.
Unusual meats aside from chicken and beef are also available. The Australian burger patty is made of emu, which is similar to the ostrich but is found only Down Under. It is topped with brie cheese and a slice of grilled pineapple. The Filipino burger has an adobo pork patty, and is topped with kesong puti (carabao cheese), atchara (pickled papaya) and chicharon cracklings.
Executive chef Mark Mulder and sous chef Manuel “Yoyong” Taboada oversee the preparation of these burgers, so that they are seasoned and grilled to juicy perfection.
These special burgers are available at Buko Bar from Aug. 30 to Sept. 14. All are served on fresh sesame buns, with a side order of the resort’s signature thick-cut Cajun fries.
