Two more days and the so-called “ber” months or the months with names ending with the suffix “ber” will officially start This is the time of the year when the days are believed to fly faster than those of the other months of the year. Perhaps it’s because the daytime seems to be shorter than nighttime, thus the days seem to end immediately.

Sept. 1 also marks the start of the longest Christmas celebration, which happens only in the Philippines. Radio stations start playing Christmas songs as early as the first day of September.

Again, I’ll be sticking to my practice of listening to Christmas songs only when December starts. So that’s a long three-month wait for me. No problem.

Meanwhile, the Cebu media will feel more excitement when September starts as it is within the month when the practitioners forget stiff competition and rivalry among media outlets and show unity by participating and cooperating in events during the week-long celebration. So what’s in store during the Press Freedom Week? Keep posted.

Kapuso stars Bea Binene, Kim Rodriguez, Joyce Ching and Joanna Marie Tan expressed both excitement and pressure as the newest primetime series on GMA Telebabad Strawberry Lane starts in September.

All four will breathe life to the characters of Clarissa, Jack, Dorine and Lupe, respectively. Joining them are promising Kapuso stars Jake Vargas, Kiko Estrada and Jeric Gonzales.

Also playing important roles are respected and acknowledged thespians Sunshine Dizon, Christian Bautista, TJ Trinidad, Ms Chanda Romero and Sheryl Cruz under the tutelage of director Don Michael Perez.

Be among those who will be hooked on the series that is a mix of drama and romance and focuses on family, friendship and the like.

Since it was a long weekend, I was torn between staying in a place where TV signals would not be a problem or going off to the mountain barangay of Tumalog in my hometown in Oslob to enjoy the cold atmosphere, fresh air and everything.

The next thing I knew was that I was already feeling the caress of the cold breeze while reading a book on top of a net hammock; reading the book by Mitch Alboom. Funny, but I can’t exactly recall if the title is For One More Day or something.

What’s important is that I enjoyed the book. However, I didn’t get to finish the book right away as some relatives invited me to a get-together, an invitation that was hard to resist.

And so I also missed the finale episode of the more than three-month run of Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) All In and the appearances of former housemates including winners and other celebrities. It was only when I got back to the lowlands that I learned that Daniel Matsunaga was declared the big winner.

Since my early bet Manolo had long been evicted, my next choice was Maris Racal. That night, Maris was declared the second big placer followed by Jane Oineza and Vicki Rushton.

Rumor has it, although unverified, that the recent PBB is not enjoying the high ratings that previous outings enjoyed. So, will there still be another PBB in the near future? Keep posted.

By now, you must already be familiar with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in which many celebrities, both foreign and local, have successfully undergone. Some of the locals are Kris Aquino, Charri Villa, Bernadette Sembrano and Anne Curtis, among others.
This challenge is aimed at collecting funds for public awareness and further study for the cure of ALS (or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and not alternative learning system, silly).

In Cebu, some inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center have taken the challenge. Jail consultant Marco Toral has taken the challenge and is nominating Gov. Junjun Davide to take it too.

However, since the governor was still out of the country when the nomination was made last Tuesday, I’m not quite sure if the honorable governor has taken the challenge by now. More takers, out there and more donations too? That’s for a cause, huh!
