‘Sto. Niño songwriting festival’ kicks off-A A +A

CEBU CITY—Now on its eighth season, the “Huniño” (“Huni alang kang Señor Santo Niño”) songwriting festival continues to invite aspiring local songwriters to write songs that are testimonies to God’s love and about the people’s devotion to the Señor Santo Niño.
Ever since its inception, organizers have received hundreds of entries annually. This year is no exception. On Aug. 27, Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. at the Santo Niño Pilgrim Center, Basilica Minore Del Santo Niño de Cebu, 12 finalists will be presented to the viewing public.
The finalists for this year are: Nagpasalamat Kami, words and music by Russel Alegado; Sto. Niño, Isalig Ko Kanimo, words by Emmanuel Abellana and music by Lizette Abellana; Isalig Ang Tanan, words by Jundel Bacalso and music by Carlo Niño Alcantara; Unta Agakon Mo, words by Alvin Gantuangco and music by Lloyd Christian Chiong; My Little King, words and music by Candy Limbaga; Pag-ampo, words and music by Rene Campomanes; To You Alone I Pray, words and music by Mary Jean Saile; Misalig Ko, words and music by Reinfred Adolfo; Sto. Niño, Giyahi Ako, words and music by Yoojin Burgos; Kay Ikaw Misaad, words by John Peterson Villarin and music by Neil Salarda; Viva Sto. Niño, words and music by Jundel Bacalso; and Buhi Nga Hari, words and music by Michaed Dax Barlaan.
Celebrity guest Luke Mejares will be present during the event as well. Despite the spirit of competition, organizers still reminds participants to join the contest not for the sole purpose of winning but for the expression of faith and offering. Admission is free. LQ3
