THE Queen City Metropolitan Ballet Theatre (MBT), in its second season, is proud to present, “Highlights,” with a repertoire never performed outside of Manila. This gala performance will be held at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel on Friday, Aug. 22 at 8:15 p.m.

It is indeed uncommon for science and art to meet, but this time, it does.

The Philippine Pediatric Society-Central Visayas Chapter, Marco Polo Plaza Hotel, Biogesic and MBT are jointly undergoing this fund-raising event, to allow it to sustain its Pediatric Community Services in La Guerta Village, Lahug, at the same time, bring quality dance programs to Cebuanos.

This repertoire, just as diversified and entertaining as the first season, promises to be a rare treat to balletomanes as well as newcomers alike: “Diane et Actaeon” - based on the Greek myth of the hunter, Actaeon “Schumann” - an original composition for two passionate ballet dancers.

Le Spectre de la Rose originally composed by Fokine for Nijinsky. Excerpts from the ballet, Napoli; Mayon, an interpretation of the Buencamino masterpiece; and Siningkilan, an exciting fusion of contemporary dance and Muslim influence.

Here Comes the Navy, a coquetish romp by some “sailorettes” and excerpts from the ballet, Sylvia. Entire program lasts about 90 minutes.

The photos here should entice you to see these exquisite and graceful dancers in person. By the way, MBT would also like to acknowledge, with thanks its rehearsal partner, Mango Square Dance Studio, for its ideal location.

Actually, the affair was a re-launching of the hotel’s spanking swimming pool as well as an appreciation bash for their top corporate accounts.

On hand to welcome all and sundry were sales and marketing manager Jason B. Lim and general manager Aneth Galoy, as well as the hotel lovelies who were extra hospitable to the many guests. Also visiting was an attractive lady, Maricar Tan, general manager of the Diamond’s sister-hotel in Cagayan de Oro City, Apple Tree Resort and Suites.
