FRENCH Consul Michel Lhuillier and Dr. Amparito Llamas Lhuillier mark 50 years of togetherness on Saturday, Aug. 2, with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral followed by a glittering formal reception at the Grand Ballroom of Marco Polo Plaza. Also frontliners are the golden couple's children: Charles Andre, Michael Edouard, Yvette Marie and Monique.


Mary Elizabeth delas Peñas celebrates her 18th birthday with a grand debutante's ball at the Marquee Ballroom of Shangri-La's Mactan Resort & Spa on Aug. 23. Her doting parents, Dr. and Mrs. Joen delas Peñas are all set to give her a coming-out party to remember.



Waterfront Cebu City Hotel welcomes a new manager in the person of Philippe F. Frugere, a personable Frenchman who has been in the hotel industry for 30 years.

Frugere played lunch host to a group of lifestyle writers in Tin Gow last week. With him were marketing communications manager Rommelle Don Mendoza and group sales manager for VisMin Antoinette Alburo Elmido.


Civic leader Beling Go Ching Hai was honoree at a birthday dinner on her 86th birthday at the Cebu Country Club. It was a lively affair organized by loving daughter Nellie Chiu. By the way, congratulations are in order for Nellie who was recently inducted as president of the Zonta Club of Cebu 1.


More power to Maria Liza Miscala Jorda (Assistant City Prosecutor of the Dept. of Justice-Cebu) who is the 2014 recipient of the Aquino Fellowship Award for Public Service. She was cited for her advocacy in cases involving violations of the Anti-Violence against Women Act, Child Abuse Law, and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.

The award was presented at a ceremony at the Chancery of the US Embassy office in Manila.


Señor Ignacio Perez Cambra, charge d'affairs and deputy head mission of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain, came to town to preside over the formal opening of Marco Polo Plaza's "Sabores de España" with Honorary Spanish Consul Anton Perdices and Marco Polo general manager (GM) Hans Hauri.


Recent Cebu visitors were were orthopedic surgeon Dr. Tony Cordero and wife Lucy from Hawaii who were houseguests of former Cebu City mayor Alvin and Ninette Garcia. They made a side trip to Camiguin where Tony spent his boyhood years.


Here for a brief family vacation were Justin and Ana (Ang) Yu and their three daughters Hannah, Hailey and Hayden who make their home in Fullerton, California. It was bonding time with Ana's parents Ang Chiong and Baby Ang here in Cebu, while in Manila, it was the turn of doting grandparents Nono and Myn Yu to indulge their grandaughters. A side trip to Singapore completed the family vacation.


Now Florida-based, Jenny Franco is in town for an extended visit with architect daughter Maya who is the only one in the family left here. Jenny linked up with old friends in the travel/tourism circle like Dawnie Roa, Zenaida Chua and Janet Alfafara who was visiting from Manila where she now resides.
