Owwa offers grants to low income OFWs

THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) 7 announced it is now accepting applications for the Congressional Migrant Workers’ Scholarship Program (CMWSP) for school year 2015-2016.

CMWSP is another scholarship program pursuant to Section 37, Article IX of Republic Act 8042, or The Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995.

The program is offered to deserving children, below 21 years old, of active or inactive overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who are Owwa members, earning an income of not more than $400 per month.


The child must be a high school graduating student or a high school graduate who has not earned units in any post-secondary/undergraduate course and is not a recipient of any scholarship award.

Scholarship grantees shall enroll in any four or five years baccalaureate or college degree courses in the priority fields in science and technology, and will receive a financial assistance amounting to P30,000 per semester or a maximum of P60,000 per school year.

Applicants will take the national qualifying exam on Sept. 21, 2014, which will be administered by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). Venue of the exam will be stated in the test permit.

All applications, whether submitted personally or through mail, should be received by Owwa 7 not later than Aug. 1, 2014.
