EVERY third week of May, the Brigada Eskwela program, an annual school maintenance week of the Department of Education (DepEd), is held in all public elementary and secondary schools in preparation for the opening of classes in June.

The program encourages partners, not just from the local government units but from the private sector as well, to help make public schools in the country more conducive for learning.

Most parents who enrolled their children in the public schools also volunteered to help in cleaning, repainting and repairs of the school buildings and chairs.

Several companies responded to DepEd’s call either by donating cash assistance or by giving a “facelift” to the beneficiary-schools.

Among those who heeded the call were Apo Cement Corp., Contempo Property Holdings Inc., Smart Communications Inc. and Filinvest Land Inc.
