Espina: Amcham’s ‘Thank You for the Memories’-A A +A
Monday, June 9, 2014
THIS year’s American Chamber of Commerce’s (Amcham) RP-US Friendship dinner and fellowship, slated at 6:30 p.m., Friday, July 4, at the Marco Polo Ballroom, pays tribute to the Philippine and US Forces, soldiers, veterans, men and women who fought in the war in the 40s and onward.
It features the “I Shall Return” pledge of Gen. Douglas MacArthur (to be played by Amcham president, RL Bandy) which initiated the Fil-American friendship and mutual assistance.
In between the battles are entertainment led by Thanks for the Memory singer Bob Hope (to be played by Consul John Domingo) and his array of Hollywood stars like the Andrews Sisters (to be played by Alice Woolbright and friends); Bing Crosby (to be played by Herbert Buot); Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, Ginger Rogers, Ann-Margaret, Marilyn Monroe, Doris Day, Donald O’Connor, Rosemary Clooney, Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, among others. The US Veterans Central Command as well as Philippine Navy and Armed Forces will lend color to the occasion. Raffles, songs, dances and fun await our guests. Reserve your seats now by calling Amcham.
SP Comm Kit. Figures of speech, or idiomatic expressions, color our communication but should be used only when needed. We still use the following: in a stew or hot spot (difficult situation); off the hook (released from a problem); hard act to follow (difficult to match); call it a day (leave a work momentarily; or have a “fun” respite). Corporate expressions like win-win situation, damage control, face-lifting, cost effective, among others, mean more than what the words convey.
