Seven shades of summer

-A A +A

SCHOOL might be reopening soon, but if the heat is any indication, there’s no need to say goodbye to the fun vibe of summer and weekends at the beach just yet. At a recent fashion event in the Northwing of SM City Cebu, Prism: Seven Shades of Summer showed how Cebuanos celebrate personal style as varied as the shades of the rainbow.

The latest looks from different retail brands were paraded in fun orange, fiery red, fruity yellow, tropical green, ocean blue, urban indigo and tribal purple for fresh new ideas to wear color.

For allover prints, bold tropical florals are trending instead of small pastel ones.

But to practice print mixing, try prints in varying scales of the same color family.

Anchor head-to-toe prints with solid-hued accessories that either match or pop against the colors of a busy outfit.

Printed trousers or shorts in comfortable fabrics are great for our weather year-round. Guys can wear them with a graphic T-shirt, while girls can pair them with a sporty top and heels. Scared to add bulk to a frame? Try a smaller print or muted tones instead of lots of splashy colors.

To experiment away from the safer look of matching a bright color with a neutral, try adding another bright color. Colors can work together if done in similar shade intensities—pastel with pastel, and neon with neon. In this case, try to include just one print, or the outfit may become overwhelming.

To ease into the color-on-color trend, choose pieces in simpler silhouettes like a bustier top with a pencil or maxi skirt for girls, or mixing in a stonewash denim shirt or jeans for guys.

These style and color trends were worn by models and stylish local personalities. Siblings Kim and Karl Arcenas, Kathrynne and Kirk Cuizon, Ange and Marie Hussenet, Tomas and Marcel Pesch, Regina and Julie Urbina, and Patrice and Thiza Uytengsu walked the runway.

Cool couples Charles and Barbie Calunod, Randy and Angel Pages, Miko Santos and Antonette Ynoc, Taino and Judy Tenney, and Carlo and Stephanie Villarica also took the stage.

Even pint-sized fashionistas took their picks for their summer wardrobes. Finn Aldeguer, Jack Booth, Sabi Fernan, Ariana Gonzalez, Jacob Hyatt, Tamara Jarque, Elizabeth Zoe Lee, and Amalia Ugarte were the littlest models but possibly the audience’s biggest favorites.
