A Parisian Creperie in Cebu

Not all crepes are created equal. When it comes to these super-thin sort of pancakes, there are actually two kinds.

Crepes are sweet, while galettes are savory and made of buckwheat flour. The preparation of each is completely different, unlike many commercialized outlets which use only one kind of batter for sweet or savory flavors. At the recently opened Creperie Paris, they know their crepes, and it’s not just because they use French butter.

Proprietor Jamaica Obeso is Cebuana but spent about three years in Paris to study French, earn her master’s degree, and work. Creperies are all over Paris, and crepes are often sold as street food. She noticed that although there are places around Cebu that serve crepes, there wasn’t a standalone cafe really dedicated to serving crepes.


She decided to open Creperie Paris in late February, and has been receiving very good response from customers, some even visiting on an almost-daily basis.

The head chef and Jamaica’s partner is French national Raphael Mollard, who was trained in no less than the Creperie Le Roïc in Rennes. The city is located in Brittany, France, the region crepes are popularly associated with. A Frenchman trained in the area where crepes are thought to originate: Raphael is qualified, to say the least, to share the authentic taste of French crepes to Cebu.

Since the creperie is open nearly all day, there’s a crepe or galette to suit different meals and moods, whether it’s as brunch, lunch, snacks, dinner, or dessert.

Jamaica wanted to counter the misconception that French food is expensive, so she priced the crepes at only P95 to P145, while the galettes are P135 to P235. Want both sweet and savory at the same time? Les Combos serve one galette and one crepe together for only P285. Have the lunch set of a galette plus a drink from 11 am to 1 pm. The afternoon set, available from 2 to 4 p.m., includes one crepe plus tea, or a cup of Mauro coffee.

You can also opt to make your own crepe with up to four toppings. Choose from four kinds of fruit, three kinds of syrup like hazelnut, dark chocolate and salted caramel, strawberry or apricot jam, and different flavors of ice cream.

Also try the ham and cheese platter, with a choice of three products from the cheese selections of emmental, raclette, gruyer, mozarella, and parma ham, cooked ham or honey ham. Pair these with a glass or bottle of the French rosé, red or white wines available.

The quality and taste of all these galettes and crepes at very reasonable prices leave customers wanting to visit again and again. Creperie Paris is located on Juana Osmeña Extension. They are open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, and 11 am to 12 midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
