Everyday summer

-A A +A

IT'S May, and it’s hot, but nobody wants to look like a hot mess when getting dressed. With the rush to get out of the house and into the next air-conditioned space, no one wants to think too hard about what to put on. Wearing house clothes may be a tempting option, but please, leave the holey T-shirt and shorts at home. Take inspiration from these easy ensembles to get you ready for wherever you need to be this summer.

To the movies:

The jeans and T-shirt combo is an all-season favorite, but is too warm for the current heat and humidity. Try this outfit for the next visit to the movies.

Tie a plaid long-sleeved shirt around the waist to add some color, and wear as a layering piece if it gets too cold since cinema ACs are often on full blast. Put a new twist to the heather gray V-neck tee with an ultra-loose fit and pull one side down.

Revealing a shoulder takes this look from simple to sexy. Sneakers or flats are typical footwear for an outfit like this; add something less expected with cut-out shoes.

To a date:

Most guys don’t really understand super-trendy or complicated outfits. Go with a fail-proof pretty dress in a lightweight material with a flirty skirt.

Add a bit of toughness with a studded belt at the waist. Try a moto-style jacket instead of the usual cardigan in case the restaurant AC gets too chilly, or if you’re checking out a place in higher altitudes.

To the beach or the mountains:

For a look that’s comfortable but still cute for either kind of day trip, try a boxy cropped top with lots of special details, paired with distressed denim shorts.

Pick the material of the cropped top based on where you’re going: heavier for the mountains, and lighter for the beach. When it comes to shorts, don’t go too short or they’re going to need constant readjustment, and look inappropriate too.

To an art exhibit:

A chambray shirt with off-kilter pockets paired with silky patterned trousers is cool, creative and comfortable. Choose pants in a more fitted style, or they may look too much like pajamas. If the office has a relaxed dress code or if it’s casual Friday, this can also be worn to work, especially with a structured bag.

Just make sure to button up the shirt, and take a styling cue with hair pulled back, and a polished face including lipstick.
