BLUE SKIES. Friendly sun. Gentle breeze on the cheeks. Green trees. Tempting waves from nearby shores. The inviting smell of the mountains. Can you feel it? Summer is here; adventures await.

Book a trip now to the outdoors of Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu, Cebu, as the elite hotel’s “Adventures in Paradise” package has found a new life with the addition of its Jogging Trail and Zipline Park at the Ocean Terraces.

Earlier this month, select media members burned calories in a brisk Friday afternoon of invigorating competition at the launch of the latest recreational facilities.

From shaping the muscles of the buttocks with the stretch pole and balance pad down to increasing foot and leg circulation with the zigzag balance walk, the 400-meter Jogging Trail, which is complimentary for guests, encloses a set of fitness pursuits for the health buff in you. Other stations are the push-up, monkey and horizontal bars; balance beams; hand and log hops; body tuck, sit and reach; set-up beach; stair stepper; and body dips and reverse pull up.

Zing in awe for the ethereal view of the Mactan Channel with a one-way ride of the resort’s 80-meter fee-based zipline perched 40 feet above the ground. Single and two rides are available at separate rates.

This year, Shangri-La’s Mactan introduces visitors to an interactive experience and corporate-centered agenda. Sports and recreation director Tommy Kennington said that as it has been in the past, the amenities and activities are open to families and circles of friends but the target is now geared towards the meetings, incentives, convention and exhibition (Mice) market, especially with the arrival of the new features.

Kennington clarified that companies have the option to arrange the team-building activities according to their preferred event. The press delegates, for instance, did an Amazing Race last March 7 under the instructions of Shangri-La Mactan’s recently appointed Fun Manager and assigned “marshals.”

In 38 minutes and 23 seconds, Pink Team was the first to survive a series of six open-air tasks—kayak race, egg tango relay, planting rice, mini golf, aquaduct race and zipline. Blue Team followed in a slight time difference of about a minute. Brown Team rounded out the quest, placing last in about an hour.

Officials said a lineup of cultural games, exercises and action sports will soon be included in the list. Meanwhile, an amusement water park, similar to what the resort in Kota Kinabalu boasts, is set for a five year plan at Shangri-La’s Mactan. Excited?

Or very excited?

For the mean time, team up and trim off the ugly fat away. ‘Tis the season to be fit and dynamic. Summer fun doesn’t have to be out of town all the time, you know.

Shangri-La’s Mactan opens its Jogging Trail daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. while the Zipline Park is from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 5 p.m.
