Espina: Women’s Month, ambassadors, Bargain, Walt Disney

NO guts, no glory! March is Women’s Month. In My Diary presents an overview of Cebu’s empowered women with guts (strength) to serve, to attain glory (success which touches the mind and heart of the community).

A random sampling of visible (non-government) women leaders spanning decades of services: Ingrid Sala Santamaria (music); Marian Aboitiz (community service); Linda Alburo and Felisa Estimade (research and education); Amparito L. Lhuillier (business and scholarships); Beling Go Ching Hai (environment); Felisa Chiongbian (charity and service); Anita Y. Sanchez (professional career and socio- civic leadership); Stella Bernabe (career and civic leadership); Tess Chan (business); Jessica Avila (Food and culinary arts); Esperanza Garcia (cooperative); Tess Fernandez (advocacy); Dr. Suga S. Yuvienco (health-related services); Marisa Fernan (mall management); Armi Garcia (consular leadership and tourism); Nelia Neri (media and travel); Petite Garcia (arts council); Fe Villarica (performing arts); Dr. Lourdes R. Quisumbing (education) and the list continues.



The Benedicto College presented Walt Disney’s Treasures led by the Basic Education Department, coordinated by school director Jun Visayas and principal Natividad Bugar, assisted by teachers Junreb Ardiente, Rachel Balmes, Juvy Daguman, Ana Luna Sayson, Sherwin Glabog and Rodita Cabreros. Participants were elementary, high school and college students of Benedicto College.This was the project of Lilian Benedicto, in cooperation with the Speechcom and Lhuillier (University of San Jose-Recoletos) scholars and directed by this writer. It was a successful musicale.

Ambassador Frank Benedicto hosted dinner for the newly appointed Philippine Ambassadors led by Ambassador Victoriano Lecaros; Ma. Amelita Aquino, Consul General; Melita Sta. Maria; and Anjie Sta. Catalina.

Salon de Rose opened its new branch in Ayala; Dr. Suga Sotto Yuvienco turned 95 with a grand celebration at Marco Polo. The Zonta 1 celebrated the Women’s Month with an interactive seminar on personality development, team building and effective communication, with this writer, to enhance further their leadership skills.

Bargain, a new hardware store, conceptualized by Michel Lhuillier, is the best place to get the best affordable price scheme. “Find an item with the cheaper price and we refund you the difference!” promised Michel. Let’s visit Bargain at 38 Gorordo Ave., Cebu City.
